Full text/video of Buhari’s address at International Criminal Court event

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday departed Abuja for the Netherlands to deliver a keynote address on the occasion of the 20th anniversary celebration of the International Criminal Court, ICC, during which the president said he would, as the current anti-corruption champion for the African Union, reaffirm Nigeria’s support to the fundamental values of the Rome Statute and to the ideals of the ICC. Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, Oji Ngofa, later explained that the decision of the International Criminal Court to invite only President Muhammadu Buhari from among world leaders to the 20th anniversary of the Rome Statute of the Court was an indication of the high respect the court has for the country. Speaking with journalists in The Hague,  Ngofa expressed the belief that Buhari’s visit will be an opportunity to show Nigeria’s appreciation for the honour done to the country by electing a Nigerian as President of the Court. Meanwhile, at Courtroom 1 of the ICC wh...

Facebook's biggest one-day stock wipe-out leaves Zuckerberg $15 bn poorer

Facebook Inc Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg's fortune took a more than $15 billion hit on Thursday, as the social media company suffered the biggest one-day wipeout in US stock market history a day after executives forecast years of lower profit margins. At least 16 brokerages cut their price targets on Facebook after Chief Financial Officer David Wehner startled an otherwise routine call with analysts by saying the company faced a multi-year squeeze on its business margins. That "bombshell," as one analyst termed it, played into concerns on Wall Street that Facebook's model could be under threat after a year dominated by efforts to head off concerns over privacy and its role in global news flow. Shares closed down almost 19 per cent at $176.26, wiping more than $120 billion off the company's value or nearly four times the entire market capitalisation of Twitter Inc . Slowing revenue growth initially pulled the stock down nearly 9 in after-hours t...

The longest lunar eclipse of the century will be on July 27

On  Friday, July 27, the full moon will pass through the shadow of the Earth. For 103 minutes, the usually silvery moon will turn blood red and ochre. It will be the longest “blood moon”  lunar eclipse   of the century, lasting 26 minutes longer than the last total lunar eclipse, in January. Here’s the good news: The vast  majority of people on planet Earth  will be able to see this lunar eclipse. Here’s the less good news: Those of us in North America (save for a slice of Newfoundland, Canada) will not see it at all. Sadly, by the time night falls in North America and the full moon rises here, the eclipse will already have ended. The moon will have finished traversing Earth’s shadow, or umbra. We’ll have to wait until  January 21, 2019 , when the next full lunar eclipse will be viewable here. NASA For readers in Australia, Asia, Africa, Europe, and South America, all you have to do is go outside at 17:14 Universal time (1:14 pm ET) and loo...
